2013

Location: North Park, San Diego, CA

Objective: Incorporate many contemporary design elements into a traditional Spanish style home while maintaining the older details of the home.

Results: This project was part of the Energy Upgrade California program. We replaced windows, air sealed and insulated walls, attic, and crawl space. We kept original details including the coffered ceiling in the dining room, the unusual peaked ceiling in the living room, the arches, and oak floors. The existing, detailed mouldings worked well with the new modern cabinets, appliances, and tile we chose for the project.

A new central furnace replaced a gas floor heater. Almost all of the lighting is LED, and we rewired the entire house, removing all the original knob and tube wiring. The house is powered, in part, by photovoltaic panels on the roof, previously installed by the owners.
